How do I get started with a product shoot?

Look at some of the suggestions below or contact me-- call or email. I’ll be happy to discuss details.

What information do I need to provide to get started?

As much as possible! Tell me all about your business, products and photo needs. Describe your products. How big are they? What color? Are they shiny or matte black? Will they need unpackaging and assembly? Let me know the angles. What’s the best angle to view your product? Straight on or at angle? Are there any special requirements needed? Do you need to show the product in use? In it’s packaging? Typically I shoot a main beauty shot, side or 3/4 angle, back of product, in packaging and in use photos. But you are the expert when it comes to your product. What views do you want? Accessories. What comes with or as an extra option. Show people everything that comes when you order the product. Backgrounds. Think about what goes behind your product. Maybe you want something in a real life setting or something creative. How many? The number of products and how many photos of each are needed. What about post production? Will you need outlining of the products or a clipping path? Some websites require a pure white background. Will the product need retouching? Final output requirements. If you’re not sure, we can make recommendations. How will the photos be used? Print, web site, power point, billboard. How soon do you need it? It may cost a little more if you need it super fast. back to top

What’s a normal turnaround time for finished photos?

I’m really quick with getting the images to you. The total time can vary with the quantity of products and photos, but the usual turnaround is usually one to two days. With greater numbers of products or when more extensive work needed, this can take a few more days. I can give you an idea of how long this will take along with the estimate for cost.

What is normally included with the photos provided?

I usually provide Color correction, adjusting for brightness and contrast and minor retouching of dust, scratches or blemishes. Extensive retouching usually costs extra. back to top

What services may cost extra?

Here are typical services that may cost extra: Extensive digital retouching, outlining, combining more than 2 or 3 images Renaming files Props Set building Models Stylist Travel expenses (for shooting at a distant location)

What if I don’t like something about the photos?

Reshoots happen, but I try to make them as painless as possible. I’ll do my best to make it right

What file formats do you provide?

Jpeg is the most common, but I can provide png, tif and psd. Ask about others available.

What backgrounds can you provide?

Pure white is the most common background (the internet uses hex color code #FFFFFF), but many other options are available. What do you want for a background? Be as creative as you want--I can probably do it. back to top

How can I get my products to you?

You can ship them to me or make arrangements to drop them off. I can also travel to your location to shoot. I’m flexible– I can do it the way you want. Clients ship product to me from all parts of the country.

Will I get my products back after photography?

Absolutely! I can ship them back to you or make arrangements for pick up.

What online retailers do you provide images for?

I have provided images that end up on Amazon, Grainger, McMaster Carr, Sysco, Gordon Food Services and many individual web stores.

Why should I pay for photography when I can just shoot on my phone?

While a smart phone can provide good images in some situations, professional product photography will day in day out give you the highest quality product shots. Lighting is also important. I have decades of experience with lighting different products, large and small, transparent, highly reflective, colorful, textured and smooth. So I know how to shoot your product.
